Algae!

Algae are very complex, numerous and found just about everywhere. In fact, where there is light, you are guaranteed to find it.

Since nobody has any idea what exactly they are, some would describe it as plants. At the same time you can try to describe it as organisms composed of one cell, or grouped together in colonies, or as organisms with many cells that are together as a simple tissue.

In any event, just like everyone else I call in very loose term “Algae” because defining them is very difficult.

As a pond owner I had a privilege to be introduced to two kinds. One is a unicellular, which is commonly referred to as green water because of the green cast they cause in ponds. The other is multi-cellular, which is known as string.

The good thing is that these two types cannot co-exist in the same body of water. But here is the catch-22. As soon as the green water clears, the string begin.

Seeing it in my pond was a cause for concern, however over time I’ve learned that instead of trying to battle the nature I simply needed to learn how to control pond algae and rip the benefits of well-balanced pond.
